  • General: From a book in Clayton Library, Houston, TX about early Alabama residents, in an article about Somerville in Morgan Co.: Moved to Conaco Co. (later Morgan) near Somerville, Ala. Was a member and one of the first officers of Shiloh Bapt. Church in 1828. Church was located between Sommerville and Stringer. Filed for land grant in 1818, about 2 miles to the SE, near Center Point (Morgan Co., AL)

  • Birth: In the Milner Echols history of 1850, he said Nancy Wimbish of SC. Also, census records give place of birth as SC
  • Census: Living with Nancy is (looks like) Margret, age 44 female, born GA. Probably "Patsy" as she is the same age in 1850 census. Also, Sophia.
  • general: Some records has Wimbush. She is not proven to be a daughter of Samuel, but have not been able to find any other Wimbish in SC that she could have descended from.

  • General: Resided in Halifax Co., VA during Revolution, and served in the VA.Militia. 17 Jun 1777, he received pay as a packhorse driver, 8 days on Cherokee Expedition. He drew land lots in Oglethrope Co., GA in 1804 (Wilkes Co. Early Records - Davidson, Vol 2, pg 81. In 1802,purchased a mare for which he gave $160 in soldiers certificates issues by the State of Ga.(Madison Co.,Ala Chancery Court Record A, p 370 filed 12 Dec 1817. Source: VA.Magazine of History,

  • Misc: Milner Echols wrote a history of the Echols families as he remembered them. This history was brought to Texas by Mrs. Outlaw, a descendant.
  • General: John Echols came to America about the end of 1600's or beginning of 1700 and settled in Carolina Co. VA. Was granted 321 acres lying in New Kent Co on the north side of Mattapony River:bounded as followeth beginning at askrube white oak at the head of a branch by Cp. William Smyth's landing path and running west northwest along Moody's lyne 460 poles to a corner Spanish Oak close to the White Oak Swamp side thence NW by N sixt poles to a red oak by a ferney bbranchside thence 20 poles to a corner red oak of John Joy's lyne to another corner red oak of the the said Joy's,etc,etc,…..The said land is due unto him the said John Eckolls by and for the transportation of 7 p'sons (persons?). Sealed 23 Apr 1688. Pat. 7,p.635 Persons transported: Samuel Randall, John London,John Courteney,Thomas Gardner,William Smithson, Deborah Marshall,Dewitt(?) Newman (This patent was copied as it appeared on Microfilm at the Virginia Archives.)
